According to a chapter in a report by the Center for Budgetary and Governance Accountability, the percentage allocation for inclusion of people with disabilities had decreased from 0.20% in 2020-21 to 0.19% in 2021-22. “The allocation for the year 2021-22 was reduced by Rs 153.62 billion in the allocation to the Department for the Empowerment of People with Disabilities compared to 2020-21, while the allocation to social protection was made by national disability Indira Gandhi passed pension and national mental health program remain the same at Rs 297.37 billion and Rs 40 billion, respectively, ”the report said.
Meenakshi Balasubramaniam, author of the chapter and co-founder of the Equality Center for the Advancement of Social Justice, noted that funding for accessibility and the promotion of accessible lifestyles has declined this year. “The Campaign for Accessible India has not received any increase in funding compared to last year. Rather, the funds are provided through the Act for the Implementation of People with Disabilities (SPIDA). There was also negligence in the financing of accessible tools and accessories, due to the lower allocation to the National Institute for Inclusive and Universal Design, ”said Balasubramaniam, member of the Center for Inclusive Policy.
Amid the pandemic, more funds were expected for community support, said disability rights activist Smitha Sadasivam.
