It is the policy of the United States Attorneys’ Offices (USAOs) and the Executive Office for United States Attorneys (EOUSA) to provide an inclusive and fair workplace without discrimination and harassment and to offer equal employment opportunities (EEO) on a merit basis only. In accordance with civil rights laws, federal regulations, executive orders, and the Department’s EEO policy, the USAOs and EOUSA will not discriminate or harass employees or applicants based on race, color, religion, national origin, gender – including sexual – orientation, gender identity or pregnancy status, age (over 40), physical or mental disability, protected genetic information, parental status, marital status, political affiliation, other non-performance-related factors, or reprisals for previous EEO activities. The USAOs and EOUSA will incorporate this policy into every aspect of our organization and promote fairness, opportunity and inclusion in the workplace through:

  • Ensure that all employees are aware of their legal rights and obligations;
  • Promote an inclusive workplace that is diverse and diverse, and free from discrimination and harassment;
  • Ensure that no employee or applicant is based on race, color, religion, national origin, gender – including sexual orientation, gender identity or pregnancy status, age (over 40), physical or mental disability, protected genetic information, parental status, marital status, political affiliation or other non-performance related factors;
  • Establish and maintain policies and procedures that give employees and applicants the right to raise allegations of discrimination and harassment without fear of retaliation and to respond quickly and appropriately when allegations arise;
  • Promote the use of alternative dispute resolution to actively involve employees and managers in efforts to resolve disputes, concerns and complaints in the workplace;
  • Recruiting, hiring, training, rewarding and promoting employees and applicants in a fair and consistent manner in accordance with the principles of the performance system;
  • Provide reasonable accommodation for employees and applicants with disabilities and for religious customs or practices in accordance with applicable Department of Justice law and procedures; and
  • Responsibility of supervisory authorities and managers for the implementation of this guideline as well as the EEO guideline of the Ministry of Justice.
