Hermosa Beach press release:
July 24, 2021
HERMOSA BEACH – The town of Hermosa Beach recently improved beach and ocean access by adding more than 30 feet of a polyester mesh beach mat called Mobi-Mat to the existing beach access tiles on 11th Street near the pier.
The newly installed mat brings people with mobility problems closer to the sea while also providing space for emergency vehicles to patrol the area. The mat also helps families pulling carts and pushing strollers traverse the sand.
The town of Hermosa Beach’s existing tiles stretched 168 feet of the beach as recommended by the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) specialists, who consulted the town about the length of the access mat for the winter months. The Mobi-Mat add-on extends the access mat to 275 feet, the length ADA specialists recommend for the summer months.
“Hermosa values access for all of our residents and visitors,” said Justin Massey, Hermosa Beach Mayor. “The city’s staff have worked hard and found the resources to expand the beach mat and we are delighted that they installed it in time for our residents and visitors to enjoy the summer. We also thank the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors for their help in getting the mat. “
