Today, the California Department of Health increased the requirements for indoor mega-events that are already in place in the state, announcing that indoor events with 1,000 or more attendees or spectators will require proof of vaccination or a negative Covid test within 72 hours of an event happening . This includes concerts, sporting events, festivals and trade shows.
A vaccination certificate or a negative preliminary test is currently required for an indoor event of 5,000 or more people. In addition, self-reports for checking the vaccination status are no longer accepted. The changes are valid until November 1st, 2021.
“The Delta variant has been shown to be highly transmissible, making it easier to spread in large crowds where people are close together for long periods of time,” said Dr. Tomás J. Aragón, CDPH Director and State Public Health Officer. “By requiring people to be vaccinated or tested negative for COVID-19 at major events, we are reducing the risk of infection, hospitalization and death.”
