TYLER, Texas -News Direct- Regions Bank
TYLER, Texas, Aug. 27, 2021 / 3BL Media / – The Regions Foundation, a nonprofit funded primarily by Regions Bank that supports community investments, announced Tuesday a $ 75,000 grant to support Habitat for Humanity of Smith County at.
The donation will specifically benefit the subsidiary’s ReHabitat program, which provides critical home repairs and remodeling for low-income residents in Smith, Van Zandt, Cherokee, Anderson, Wood, Henderson, and Rusk Counties of East Texas. ReHabitat customers include families, seniors, people with disabilities and veterans.
“Home ownership gives people a sense of security and pride,” said Marta Self, director of the Regions Foundation. “But a person’s home also conveys a sense of identity by being part of something bigger: their neighborhood. We are excited to support the vital work of Habitat for Humanity of Smith County to help families repair and proudly maintain their homes and improve their communities. “
Jack Wilson, chief executive officer of Habitat for Humanity of Smith County, notes that while homeowners do the work to maintain their residence, unexpected expenses can quickly become costly due to age. This is where ReHabitat comes in to support qualified applicants.
“Many people who own older homes are fixed income seniors, which means they can’t afford to have their homes serviced when updates are needed,” said Wilson. “These older homes often have health and safety issues, including faulty electrical panels, rotted floors, broken plumbing, and leaky roofs that lead to mold inside. The ReHabitat program enables us to reduce the risk of home-related illness and injuries to seniors due to poor maintenance. We are deeply grateful to the Regions Foundation for this grant. “
Since its inception in 2009, ReHabitat has performed more than 1,000 critical repairs across Habitat’s seven county service area.
The story goes on
Lois Peel is a client who benefited from the program. Repairs to her home included new plumbing, new electrics, exterior paneling and interior wall replacement, and bathroom renovations to meet the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility standards.
“I’m so grateful to Habitat of Smith County for helping me solve several problems in my home,” said Peel. “I’ve lived here for 50 years and it’s difficult to do repairs on a steady income. I especially love my bathroom renovation because it is much safer. “
Renovations like the one on Peel’s house offer ReHabitat customers a priceless gift: peace of mind.
“A family’s home is their haven,” said Tara Odell, market manager for Regions Bank in Tyler. “This is where they meet to eat, hang out and celebrate milestones. With this contribution from the Regions Foundation, we can give families a feeling of security and security. We can help ensure that they have a safe place to create memories for years to come. “
