“It enables the full functionality of the mouse, which seems to be really nice,” Colin explains in a YouTube test of the current prototype.
In this video, Colin explains some improvements that need to be made in the final product, but says that the current prototype allows him to simply click and perform actions like right-click and drag. He’s also excited about technology that allows him to control both his computer and his phone.
JJ and Matt self-funded the project for several months and then launched a crowdfunding campaign in February. JJ Moritz states they chose crowdfunding (as opposed to borrowing or investing) to keep end product costs down.
“Insurance doesn’t cover most assistive technologies, and Medicaid’s Colorado employees have strict asset limits. So we need to keep this product affordable for someone with an injury. If we got any money or credit from investors, we’d have to Set product costs much higher early on in order to repay the money, “explains Moritz.
The aim is to keep the cost of a single device around $ 400, although Moritz admits this is difficult to achieve as donations to their crowdfunding campaign have slowed. Regardless, they hope to launch the product this October after additional user testing and improvements.
