CCPS partnering with new COVID-19 preventative screening supplier, contractor service supplied by state well being division
Beginning August 30th, Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) will be working with Maryland Department of Health’s contract provider, 20/20 GeneSystems, to provide all COVID-19 preventive screenings. This includes the high school’s athletic screening program. Tests in all high schools begin the week of August 30th. Voluntary tests in elementary and middle schools will be added through the week of September 7th.
All parents who want their child to take part in the program (including student athletes) have to register once using the new system. Click here to access the system. Parents of competitive athletes have to register again using the new system.
Registration is possible 24 hours a day and parents only need to register once for the duration of the program. The tests take place weekly and parents can register their child for screenings at any time. In order for a student or employee to be tested, the one-time registration must be completed by midnight on the Saturday before the test week.
In elementary and intermediate grades, the tests take place during the midday shift to avoid conflicts with the class. The tests at high schools take place twice a week during the lunchtime shift and once a week for athletes from 2.15 p.m. to 3.15 p.m. The school principals will provide the families with the details of the exam schedule.
GeneSystems licensed personnel will oversee the tests at schools and centers and process all results.
The test used is a front nasal swab PCR test that a student or staff member can perform on their own. GeneSystems staff will also help each test participant if necessary.
The test results are passed on directly to parents and employees who register for the test within 48 hours. Parents or staff members with questions about the program can contact Jason Stoddard, CCPS Director of School Safety and Security at [email protected] or 301-392-5550.
Earlier this summer, the Maryland Department of Health signed a contract with GeneSystems to provide COVID-19 screening services to Maryland public schools.
