Gov. Justice faucets Kim Nuckles to steer Equal Employment Alternative Workplace | State Journal Information

CHARLESTON – Governor Jim Justice recently appointed Kim Nuckles as Director of the Office for Equal Opportunities.

“I sincerely congratulate Kim on this appointment and I know she will do a fantastic job,” said Justice.

In addition to her new title, Nuckles will retain her role as West Virginia State Coordinator for Disability Law, bridging the gap between the two initiatives.

Nuckles has been the ADA coordinator since June 2012. Prior to that, she worked in private law for more than a decade.

“I am honored that Governor Justice has appointed me on this important mission and I thank him for his confidence in my ability to do so,” said Nuckles.

“I find it particularly exciting to use my experience as the state ADA coordinator to continue working to improve both accessibility and fairness within the West Virginia government for all citizens,” she continued. “As a native of West Virginia, I am delighted to serve the state that I love so much. I will always strive to continue to make West Virginia a better place for my own daughter and for generations to come. “

As EEO Director, Nuckles will ensure that the state adheres to the same labor laws and practices to prevent harassment and discrimination in the workplace; Conduct public relations through training, literature and materials; and work with various other agencies and organizations to promote diversity and inclusion.

Within the state government, Nuckles also serves in various other roles including the West Virginia State Bar’s Subcommittee on Access to Justice, Cultural Facilities and Capitol Resources Grant Committee, Olmstead Council, Capitol Evacuation Team, Capitol Closed Point of Dispensing (CPOD) Committee , West Virginia Access and Functional Needs Working Group through the Center for Threat Preparedness and the National Federation for the Blind. She is also a member of the Leadership Network through the Mid-Atlantic ADA Center and chairs the Governor’s Committee for the Purchase of Commodities and Services from the Handicapped.

A native of Benwood, Nuckles is a 2001 graduate of West Virginia University College of Law and a 1997 graduate of Wheeling Jesuit University.
