Jury Slams Railroad Co. for Failure to Accommodate Listening to-Impaired Prepare Conductor to Tune of $44M
One of the first questions when it comes to making a reasonable accommodation request is how much it will cost. It can be excruciatingly difficult to pinpoint the exact cost of housing an employee. In some cases, housing could be relatively simple and inexpensive. In other cases it could be much more nuanced and a higher price tag.
A jury in Wisconsin recently made their own estimate of the cost of failing to accommodate an employee by ruling in $ 44 million in favor of an employee. And what was the cost of the accommodation that the employee was looking for, you might ask? $ 3,600. Suffice it to say that the cost of not housing a disabled worker can have some serious consequences.
