Zappos is expanding a unique program that makes it easier for people with special needs to buy shoes.

The online retailer announced that it is expanding its so-called Single and Different Size Shoes program in response to “overwhelming customer demand”.

Launched as a pilot in July, the program allows customers to purchase just one shoe or a pair of shoes of two different sizes. It’s part of Zappos Adaptive, a broader initiative launched in 2017 to offer a collection of clothing and shoes that meet the needs of people with various disabilities.

Zappos said it had been looking for balloons with “single shoes” on its website since the start of the new program in summer with styles from Nike, BILLY Footwear, Converse, Stride Rite, PLAE, New Balance and others.

Accordingly, the range of products on offer has grown by 86% and now also includes shoes from Merrell, Brooks, Dansko, Vans, Friendly Shoes and UGG.

Individual shoes are available in toddler to adult sizes and in various widths.
