HOLMDEL, NJ – The new and improved Allocco Park playground will officially open next Monday, with a ribbon cutting ceremony scheduled for 5:00 p.m. that anyone can attend.
Thanks to a $ 200,000 grant the community received last year to improve the playground, the playground now has inclusive and accessible equipment under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
The grant was secured through Monmouth County’s Municipal Open Space program, which awarded a total of $ 3.47 million in grants to parks in 23 cities.
“Our goal was to ensure that all children in Holmdel and the surrounding area have access to public outdoor play areas,” Holmdel’s Mayor Greg Buontempo said in a statement. “We were grateful for the financial support from the district and the Game Time Projects, which made it possible for us to build this integrative, accessible playground.”
The Deputy Mayoress Cathy Weber, the chairwoman of the Committee for Parks and Recreation, agreed.
“The residents of Holmdel have been contacting the Township Committee for some time to apply for an ADA-compliant playground. I am delighted that we were able to make this a reality for our children, ”said Weber.
