Michelle L. Roberts, an ERISA litigation attorney in the Bay Area with 16 years of successful experience representing employees in litigation, introduced the Roberts Disability Law (“RDL”) to provide full representation for individual clients. Michelle’s practice focuses on the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (“ERISA”), a complex federal law that governs most of the benefits arising from employer-provided retirement plans. Over the years, Michelle has successfully represented hundreds of clients denied disability benefits, including many court wins.
Through RDL, Michelle will continue her life’s work and help employees get the benefits they deserve. Michelle’s professional theme is “Fight for the Outsider”. She rigorously represents individuals against large insurance companies who use their resources to wear down insured persons who may already be at risk from an unexpected disability. Michelle’s commitment to the outsider is also reflected in her volunteering work for local nonprofits, including Legal Aid at Work and the AIDS Legal Referral Panel (ALRP).
“Like almost all world-class law firms and attorneys, Michelle is relentlessly committed to delivering legal services to those who need it most. We are grateful that she was part of a loyal group of volunteer attorneys who share their expertise with our Workers’ Rights Clinic. “
Mike Gaitley, Attorney, Legal Assistance at Work.
“Michelle has represented ALRP customers for many years and has always offered them the best possible quality of representation. Michelle is a true heroine. Michelle represents the best of the legal community and I wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone seeking help with ERISA matters. “
Bill Hirsh, Managing Director, ALRP.
Michelle founded RDL to provide targeted, high quality representation to every RDL customer from start to finish. “What I love most about my job is the relationship I build with my clients as I fight for their rights. I want to be by your side from the first phone call until I can call you to congratulate you on a final resolution. I want to know each client’s case inside and out so that I can fight for them effectively. “As stated by Amy H., a former long-term disability client for whom Michelle has reached a favorable settlement,
“I am a lawyer and therefore have very high demands on every lawyer who represents me. Michelle exceeded my expectations every step of the way. I always felt that no matter what was going on in her practice, my case was a priority and she was in control. Every message from me was returned within hours. Michelle was also willing to take the time to patiently explain aspects of my case to me, which I greatly appreciated. She’s also very skilled, experienced, and just a really good person. The most surprising thing about working with Michelle was that she actually cared about me as a person and was absolutely committed to bringing me justice. I am very grateful to her and my advice would be that you could not find a more dedicated and competent lawyer if she were willing to take your case on. “
Michelle is an attorney at the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference and a member of the BASF Judicial Committee. She is also the Senior Editor of Bloomberg’s BNA Employee Benefits Act and Vice Chair of the Employee Benefits Committee of the ABA Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section. Before starting RDL, Michelle was a partner at Kantor & Kantor, LLP.
Roberts Disability Law is based in Oakland, California and serves clients across California.
