WisDOT Opens Public Remark Interval for 2021 ADA Transition Plan | Native Information I Racine County Eye

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) invites the public to review and comment on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) 2021 transition plan.

The ADA Transition Plan contains information about WisDOT’s efforts to continuously improve the accessibility of the entire state highway system, including roadside facilities, navigability within public rights of way, and public entry processes. According to federal law, the transition plan is regularly updated with opportunities for public participation.

WisDOT encourages all interested parties to participate in the 30-day public comment period from August 25, 2021 to September 23, 2021.

“WisDOT continues to strive to create the safest, most useful transportation system for people of all abilities,” said Craig Thompson, WisDOT secretary-designate. “We encourage everyone to review the plan and provide any thoughts or feedback that might help us improve the agency’s current efforts.”

The plan is available on the WisDOT website at Wisconsindot.gov/ADA.

The transition plan is an update of the guidelines, procedures, and practices that meet the requirements of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act 1990. Public comments on the plan will be used to guide the department’s strategy for ADA improvements as it moves forward.

All WisDOT street-side facilities are built according to current ADA standards at the time of planning and construction. Older facilities will continue to receive updates as part of planned improvements and as resources become available.
